This pin is the winning design of the Avondale Artist Village Pin Design competition (Halifax, 2021).
The main message I have identified for this pin to communicate is the significance of contributing to this village. Investors will feel honored and engaged with this village when they receive these pins. By wearing this pin, they bring this honor and engagement with them.
On the side of a jewellery artist, I am also a branding designer. I see this pin as a part of the branding of this project. If it has a tight bond with the main elements, it will fit in together as one of the branding products. And I appreciate the artist village logo, from how it’s stating the village as a place to live and visit year long. So I decide to use this logo as the main visual of the pin.
The illustrated map is another thing that caught my eye. With the neighborhood housing surrounding the village, people would come together to the center of the community for their studios and workshops from different directions. On the front of this pin, The left side is designed with a space to contain moss, and it will be the medium to illustrate the above idea. Another layer of meaning under the moss is for the investors, as they are supporting this village from far and near(moss coming into the center), with their help together is how this community come true(the main half round).
The pins are designed in Rhino first, then 3D printed into castable wax, cast into sterling silver, with nature felt insert. Both the felt and packaging are done with laser cutting.
